GALA DINNER AT CHEZ CELLUCCI'S IN AVALON - May 22, 2010

Our host and hostess - John and Edna Cellucci

                      

If you did not attend the dinner at the Cellucci home, then you missed out on a great dining experience. Not only did Chef John astound us with his cooking, Edna  amazed us with her musical talents along with the rest of their family- daughter Kate and son John.....and John Sr. also sang. They are definitely our answer to the Von Trapp Family!

              

Not only did the Cellucci family entertain the party goers, Joe Smith, the principle clarinet for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the AVA Orchestra and the Philly Pops where he has been a member for 31 years, donated his time and talent to the Friends and played throughout the evening. He is shown above with Edna at the piano. We also had party goers sing including Pat Monaghan and Beth Welz and a first time attendee, Vince Mento, wowed us with his singing too.

Friends of the Cellucci's pitched in to help with this delicious dinner and plentiful drinks. Bonnie Smith, Joe's wife, as well as Beth Welz helped get things ready and then kept the food coming......and the bartender, Tom Hobson was great! 

                                                                                              

As you can tell by the following pictures, everyone really enjoyed themselves. However, Herb Herman and MaryAnne McGrath proved that the Friends of the Pops' work never ends.........

              

    

This was a wonderful affair! The menu featured all varieties of delicious dinner foods with great appetizers, desserts and a flowing bar. We even had a "brochure" cake.

                             

Ginny Cooper gave the party a thumbs up and George Ingram blessed us from above! .....and we are blessed to have such great friends of the Friends of the Ocean City Pops.

                                                           

 

          Thanks to all who supported this Friend's fundraiser including those who could not attend but still supported us. We really appreciate your loyalty. Also a special thanks to ShopRite in Marmora for their contribution.              

 

 


 

COOKIE GET TOGETHER - Tuesday, August 3rd - Immediately following the "Simply Sinatra" concert - Music Pier Loggia

We very rarely get to see and talk to our "Tuesday Night Series" attendees and others who go to the Tuesday night concerts. This after concert get together we hope will remedy this and what could be nicer than to have cookies and refreshments for you. We will get to see you PLUS you will have the chance to meet our Ocean City Pops Orchestra and be able to meet and talk to our Board members too. See you there!

Tickets will be sold to the luncheon prior to and during intermissions at Ocean City Pops concerts on the Music Pier until Wednesday, August 10.  Participants will have the opportunity to win numerous door prizes, gift baskets, silent auction items, and a 50/50 donated by many merchants in Ocean City and off shore.  Tickets are $40 and include valet parking.

    21st ANNUAL POPS LUNCHEON - August 19, 2010 - 12 Noon at Greate Bay Country Club  "Magical Melodies"

    
Back by popular demand, tenor Cody Austin, a former resident artist of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, will entertain at the 21st Annual Summer Luncheon sponsored by the Friends of the Ocean City Pops.  Cody, who has been described as “one of the most promising artists of his age,” has performed both classical and contemporary music with orchestras in New York City, Philadelphia, and Ocean City.  He has been featured in engagements with the New Jersey Master Chorale, the Ambler Symphony, Jupiter Symphony of New York, the Philly Pops, and, of course, the Ocean City Pops Orchestra.

Ocean City Pops' Debut at 2010 ACCC Restaurant Gala 

The Ocean City Pops orchestra quartet was a huge success at this black-tie fundraising event hosted by the Atlantic Cape Community College on March 11th at Bally's, Atlantic City Hotel and Casino. Our new Pops' banner was prominently displayed on the stage - a fitting accompaniment for these musicians who played continuously throughout the cocktail party hours. The quartet consisted of Pamela Whitman, flute, Carl Mottola, drummer, Andy Lalasis, bass, and Scott Breiner, pianist. David Coombs, a Trustee Board member of the Friends of the Pops, was instrumental in securing this venue for the Pops. Dave is on the Gala Steering Committee and a well respected member of this group also.  

The Friends of the Pops were well represented at this Restaurant Gala by William Scheible, our Pops Maestro and Barbara Fasy, our Chair, both attended in formal attire. After a never ending supply of drinks and hor d'oeuvres which made you forget that dinner was still to be served, guests were ushered into a Moroccan wonderland. More than 30 of the finest local restaurants competed to bring the patrons the tastiest meal that their palates had ever enjoyed...and enjoy they did. Guests were free to visit each and every restaurant booth to choose their meal and there was no limit to the number of times you visited. As if that was not enough, the desserts that followed were scrumptious and guaranteed to put on pounds just by looking at them. This was definitely a grand affair complete with music and dancing.

 Bill, Barbara and Dave met many interesting and friendly people who were familiar with the Pops and who hope to support them in the future. They received promises of gift certificates, new ad takers, sponsor opportunites and overall goodwill for the Pops. It was a great opportunity to meet others and hopefully this gala will be an event that will be available to the Pops year after year.

Dave Coombs was pleased to introduce Barbara, to the Gala Steering Committee Chair, Diane McKoy and her daughter - "Chair meeting Chair". At the end of the evening, there was a prize drawing and Dave had sold the winning ticket to the lucky recipient. Bill Scheible also won a prize from Tiffany's so everyone was lucky, but just to be at this gala showed everyone's good luck.
