William Scheible, Artistic Director

Celebrating his 27th year conducting the Ocean City Pops, William Scheible has transformed the Music Pier series into one of regional critical acclaim. Under his tutelage the Orchestra has increased its summer season, initiated a children’s Lollipops series, as well as numerous educational outreach concerts and workshops, and joined in collaboration with numerous prestigious artists and groups from around the country.

Maestro Scheible has conducted over 1000 performances, 50 musicals, presided over more than forty Broadway and operetta full-staged productions, and has premiered several new Western Hemisphere compositions with the Orchestra. In addition, he has commissioned new choreographed works with the New Jersey Ballet (Schehdrin’s Carmen) and with Cygnus Dance Studio of Egg Harbor Township (The Elves and the Shoemaker).

In 1996, he led the orchestra on its first international tour to the Bermuda Festival, where they were treated to local accolades by the press. Audiences continue to delight in his winning style with the POPS and the Maestro has been credited with making the orchestra into "an ensemble of over-achievers!"

Maestro Scheible has participated in various workshops and classes with esteemed international conductors: Alan Gilbert (New York Philharmonic), Michael Tilson Thomas (San Francisco Symphony), Kurt Masur (Leipzig Gewandhaus), and Gerard Schwarz (Seattle Symphony).

In addition to his work with the POPS, Mr. Scheible is a brass specialist with the Philadelphia School District where he teaches at select high schools throughout the City and has been on the faculties of Settlement Music School and Temple University Music Prep. In 2002, William Scheible was invited to conduct the All-Philadelphia High School Symphonic Band in concert at Philadelphia’s prestigious Academy of Music. An accomplished trumpet player, he has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pennsylvania Ballet, Concerto Soloists, Reading Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, and for two years was co-principal trumpet of the Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in Maracaibo.  While in Venezuela, Mr. Scheible was also invited to be professor of trumpet at the Barquisemeto Conservatory, where he taught the country's most illustrious muscians, including Rodolpho Salimbegni, conducting teacher of Gustavo Dudamel (Los Angeles Philharmonic).

In 2003 William Scheble was invited to conduct the All-Philadelphia Concert Band at Verizon Hall in the Kimmel Center to much acclaim.

Scheible is the proud father of one son, Jeffrey, who is a Ph.D. candidate in film and media studies program at the University of California (Santa Barbara).
